Nov/Dec 2005 - V25.06W
Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship Qualifiers
David Allen, Media Officer - Professional Darts Corporation

PDC - Professional Darts CorporationHISTORY will be made at the Ladbrokes.com World Championship, after Dale Newton joined brother Wes in the tournament when he came through the PDPA Qualifiers in Hull.

Fleetwood-based Newton, 22, will make his debut in a major tournament when he travels to the Circus Tavern later this month.

Elder brother Wes has already qualified by right after working his way into the world's top 32, and the duo will become the first siblings to appear in a major event together when they appear at Purfleet.

Newton was one of 16 PDPA members to win coveted places at the Circus Tavern, with Gary Welding defeating two former World Champions - John Lowe and Keith Deller - to join him.

Andrew Hamilton, Wayne Jones and Jason Clark have qualified for the World Championship for the second successive year after winning through their groups.

There was further success for Steve Hine, who has played in three other major PDC events this year, while two veterans of the professional game, Dave Whitcombe and Kevin Spiolek, rolled back the years to qualify.

Welsh duo Steve Alker and Mark Salmon also came through the field, and there was delight for Northern Ireland's Geoff Wylie

Dave Honey and Jimmy Mann capped good years on the PDC circuit by qualifying, alongside Andy Smith - who narrowly missed out on a place in the top 32.

David Platt will return to the Circus Tavern three years after qualifying, and St Helens newcomer Alan Tabern will also head for Essex after seeing off Peter Evison in his final match.

TAYLOR SET PLATT OPENER
PHIL TAYLOR will begin the defence of his Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship title against David Platt at the Circus Tavern on Monday 19 December.

Taylor will face the Staffordshire-based PDPA qualifier - who previously played in the event three years ago - on the opening night of the tournament, as he bids to win an unprecedented 13th World Championship.

Current world number one Colin Lloyd faces Gary Welding, a qualifier from St Helens, in another intriguing first round draw.

Last year's beaten finalist Mark Dudbridge will take on American qualifier Darin Young as he bids to go one better this year.

Other mouth-watering clashes include a repeat of last year's quarter-final between Bob Anderson and Andrew Hamilton, and rising star James Wade's meeting with Wayne Jones.

Canadian champion Gerry Convery will face Dave Askew, while Germans Tomas Seyler and Andree Welge take on Jamie Harvey and Alan Warriner-Little respectively on their debuts in the event.

John Kuczynski, the number one in the American rankings, was drawn against Lionel Sams, and New Zealander Warren Parry faces Budweiser UK Open finalist Mark Walsh.
