A Grand Season for The Polish Crew
THE POLISH CREW, a Super A Team out of the Minuteman Dart League playing out of the Polish
Club in Abington, Massachusetts, had a terrific season. Actually, they had an exceptional season, going undefeated in fourteen weeks of play against some
of the best Super A Teams with some of the best players in the US.
After beating Michael J’s, a former Super A title holder, the first week of the playoffs,
they were faced with Post 6 Flyers, the current and many time Super A title holder, next. It was a great match and The Crew advanced to the finals
against The Pub out of the West Roxbury Pub, a team that consists of a number of well ranked players such as Ray Carver, Bob Givens and Tom Curtin.
The first night(Tuesday) of the championship competition was played at the Polish Club and
The Crew won 7-4. The next
competition was on Thursday when they played the remainder of the match at The Pub. The Pub got the first three games to tie up the match 7-7. The Crew got the next three to again take the lead 10-7. The Pub fought back winning the next three games to again level the match at 10-10.
The match came dow to the final two games and John Finnegan stepped up winning the next one
to make it 11-10, guaranteeing overtime if necessary.
Then, Ron Pacard had the glory of getting the match winning point. Another highlight of the night was when Joe Breadmore beat Ray Carver in singles two games straight. It was one of the most exciting matches ever witnessed in Super A competition in the MMDL.
